Westknits, Lopi and love

Our Knit in the West with West tour is in progress… Right now the group is devouring Stephen West’s knowledge and tips on knitting gorgeous top down shawls. Looking out the windows we see gorgeous mountains, the ocean and sheep grazing the fields.
These are some of the places we have visited so far:
Ragga’s (my) house for breakfast on day one
Rhe Álafoss factory outlet where everyone picked out lopi for knitting their own sweater
Visited Guðrún Bjarnadóttir, master dyer and botanist (see the picture of Stephen’s response to the couch full of naturally dyed yarn)
A lovely wool collective full of hand spun and plant dyed yarn
Rita and Páll’s place, they make lovely things from sheep and reindeer horns
The Textile Museum (will write more about that)
Learned about salt brewing in a remote fjord using only geothermal energy (yum!)
The lovely Hólmakaffi – right at the ocean in the tiny town of Hólmavík
Last night I taught my little lopi sweater class – every one is now also well on their way with making their full sized lopi sweater. And like I said, Stephen is now teaching about shawls and how he works with his super clever shaping and designs. Oh… and we have had a sneak preview of his up coming mystery shawl knitalong… the group in awe but is also sworn to secrecy!!
