No pattern? No problem!

Last night I went to dinner with Ragga and Edda. Of course, getting together with knitters means that there will be some quality time spend clicking away.
As we were sitting and knitting, I watched Ragga cast on this bit of blue merino Madelinetosh lace she got in the States- need I say it was absolutely delicious? As she’s knitting, I’m noticing distinct shaping, and then Ragga turns to Edda and starts talking about how freeing it is to not be writing it down. Being totally lost, and amazed that there were no patterns in sight, I asked Ragga what they were talking about. They were saying that it is so nice to just knit something up and not worry about how you were going to write the pattern down to be published. Let me say that again. They found it easier to simply pull the pattern from their mind and execute it with needles and yarn rather than thinking of how to format it for publishing at the same time. What?! I barely knit anything without a pattern two inches from my nose, let alone pulling it from my mind, knitting it, and then writing it down in a way that other people can follow it! Are you mad! These ladies are in a league all of their own. +
Needless to say, their creations were beyond beautiful, though the talent in the room was completely stunning!
The photos are of the newly-completed graffiti bike and laundry line of one-off socks and mittens. Believe it or not, most of the knitting comes from Edda’s cast-off, unfinished projects. Geez!
