The quest for cotton

In Iceland the summers are cool. Both in terms of temperature and culture… This means that local knitters just continue working with wool, usually the Icelandic Lopi, throughout the summer. Thus cotton isn’t very popular among knitters and it shows on the selection in the LYS’s. I usually use wool, occasionally silk or some irresistible blend, but very seldom cotton. So I ran into such trouble the other day when I needed to find bulky-ish, grey, matte cotton to use for a special sweater project I’m working on. My very specific and so un-Icelandic needs were not easy hard to fulfill. I went to ALL the yarn stores in the greater Reykjavík area… and finally I found the right yarn at Storkurinn just a couple of minutes from the Knitting Iceland office on Laugavegur. It’s Rowan’s Handknit Cotton. Perfect!
