Hop into the Knitmobile and head off with your knitting guide out of Reykjavík and into the wild. The tour includes stops at inspiring places tailored to your fiberly interest. We visit Þingborg, a wool collective where you can learn about and purchase the most luxurious type there is of Lopi and unique hand dyed and hand spun wool by the members of the collective. You can even put your spinning skills to the test if you are up for it!
If you have already been on a regular Golden Circle tour (probably the most popular day tour among tourists traveling to Iceland), don’t worry, we can offer you the Woolen West tour that takes you in a different direction to see things that are just as exciting. Wool collectives, hand spinners, plant dyeing and of course a HUGE dose of spectacular nature are on the itinerary in both cases. A light lunch is included in the day tour.
The Woolen West tour, 7-8 hours
175 USD per person including lunch
This tour takes you deep into one of the most creative and crafty parts of Iceland, the West. This beautiful area has a rich history dating back to the settlement around 1100 years back.
We’ll visit people that dye with Icelandic plants, make beautiful buttons and pieces of art from horns, spinners and of course master knitters. We’ll also visit Jóhanna, the visionary who is fighting to save the Icelandic goat from becoming extinct. On her farm Jóhanna has some 160 Icelandic Cashmere goats, one of the oldest goat breeds in the world. She knows each one by name and they are super curious and cuddly animals. A light lunch is included in the day tour.
*A minimum number of participants for all tours is 2 persons – if 1 person chooses to come on a tour the fee is as if 2 people were paying.
** Visits to the Ístex spinning mill are subject to coordination with Ístex employees and opening hours of the spinning mill.
